Qbase and the environment
Recycling materials

Qbase recycles all data capture materials and all paper and newspaper products in its offices. Disposal of the hard copy formats is an environmental issue that we take seriously. We refuse to unnecessarily increase the volume of landfill waste in the UK , so we use environmental disposal.

What happens to our materials?

All paper is shredded and recycled, whilst polywrap and other polymer-based materials are stripped down and provided to the council for recycling.

Every effort is taken to reduce the carbon footprint of our business and ensure that all materials connected with our enterprise are recycled wherever possible. We now also recycle our redundant PCs laptops, monitors, mobile phones and servers.

Our customers

Qbase customers also work with us to reduce the impact of direct marketing on the environment - all the returned mail that we process is also recycled and not sent to landfill sites.
Qbase is at the forefront of deploying sophisticated 1 to 1 email broadcast messages to customers, which also has a positive impact on the environment. Several Qbase customers now use QbaseMail 4.0 to communicate directly with their customers, replacing some paper based direct marketing activity.

Qbase managing director, Ian Johnstone comments:

"We have been offering this service to our customers for the past 18 months and now have 80 per cent making use of it. There are challenges to consider such as delivering five tonnes of catalogue paper every other day to the recycling company, and recycling sensitive materials with personal information however, we have a responsibility to make a contribution to protect the environment so it is more than worth it."

"When considering catalogues, for example, the paper can take 2-5 months to bio-degrade in landfill while the plastic packaging can take 10-20 years. The marketing industry has a real opportunity to help combat global climate change just by recycling its returns."

Qbase uses unique record number

Multiple occurrence states that each occurrence of the same individual within a gross database proportionately increases that individual’s propensity to respond. Qbase uses Persistent Unique Record Numbers to take advantage of this observation.
